The research was guided by the problem of understanding how the legal advances achieved since the 1988 Constitution are materialized in practice, considering the difficulties in implementing the principles of interculturality, bilingualism, and differentiation. The specific objectives were to identify the main historical and legal milestones of Indigenous school education, describe the characteristics of traditional knowledge and community educational processes, and categorize the main challenges related to teacher education and intercultural curriculum construction. This was a bibliographic study, of a basic nature, with a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical objective. Searches were carried out in the SciELO, Google Scholar, and CAPES Periodicals databases, considering publications from 2021 to 2026. Inclusion criteria prioritized studies that directly addressed the relationship between traditional knowledge and formal schooling in the Brazilian context. The results revealed significant normative advances; however, structural, formative, and epistemological obstacles persist, limiting the effectiveness of truly intercultural education.
