This work analyzes the insertion of Environmental Education in Brazilian Basic Education, examining educational guidelines in light of the National Environmental Education Policy (PNEA) and the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). A bibliographic and documentary research was conducted, investigating legislations, public policies and theoretical perspectives that support Environmental Education in the Brazilian school context. The results indicate that, although the PNEA (Brasil, 1999) and the BNCC (Brasil, 2018) recognize the importance of Environmental Education as a transversal theme, there are significant limitations in its practical implementation in schools.
