The study is based on my professional experience as a Civil Engineering professor and on reflections developed throughout the specialization program in Management in Professional and Technological Education. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative), with an exploratory and descriptive nature, using a literature review, documentary analysis, and questionnaires administered to Civil Engineering students. The theoretical framework is based on authors such as Paulo Freire, Dermeval Saviani, Gaudêncio Frigotto, Maria Ciavatta, and Marise Ramos, who advocate for comprehensive, critical, and socially committed education. The results indicate that students recognize the importance of practical classes, technical visits, case studies, integrative projects, and digital technologies in the construction of knowledge. Challenges were also identified, including curricular fragmentation, structural limitations, and the need for closer integration between academic education and professional practice. As an intervention proposal, the implementation of supervised internships on a semester basis, articulated with the subjects being studied, is suggested, along with the creation of an institutionally managed school-based microenterprise supervised by faculty members in the field.
