The central objective is to analyze the socio-environmental impacts of this degradation and highlight the role of Indigenous schools in promoting environmental education, proposing preservation and recovery strategies that integrate traditional knowledge and scientific understanding. The methodology adopted is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, based on bibliographic research and documentary analysis of articles, books, theses, legislation, and institutional reports. The results show that the degradation of riparian forests intensifies the socio-environmental vulnerability of local communities, affecting both water quality and food and cultural security. The literature also indicates that environmental education in Indigenous schools strengthens sustainable practices, legitimizes ancestral knowledge, and promotes dialogue with science, constituting a path for the preservation and recovery of ecosystems.
