Pedagogical strategies that promote greater student participation and articulate theory and practice become relevant to favor the learning of botanical content. This study aimed to identify perceptions and analyze the contributions observed during the construction of a school herbarium with an emphasis on medicinal plants, developed through an extension project, regarding its potential for the teaching and learning of Botany in the 8th grade of Elementary School at Colégio Estadual Militarizado Ovídio Dias de Souza, located in the municipality of Amajari, Roraima. The research is characterized as a qualitative and descriptive case study, based on the analysis of records produced during the execution of the project, including observations, field diary, photographic records, students' productions, and prepared herbarium specimens. The data were interpreted through content analysis of the herbariums presented. The results show students' participation in the proposed activities, increased familiarity with botanical concepts and terminology, strengthening of the articulation between theory and practice, and appreciation of traditional knowledge related to the use of medicinal plants. Approximations between scientific content and the students' sociocultural reality were also observed.
