This study aimed to analyze, through a systematic literature review, the antecedents, impacts, and prevention strategies of burnout among physicians and nurses, considering the role of job demands, work resources, personal resources, and leadership styles. The research was conducted using national and international databases (CAPES, SciELO, PubMed, among others), covering publications from 2015 to 2025. A total of 21 studies were selected and analyzed according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and the CASP criteria, using Bardin’s content analysis method. The results indicated that burnout is a multifactorial phenomenon associated with exhausting workloads, low autonomy, insufficient institutional support, and authoritarian leadership, leading to consequences such as decreased care quality, increased medical errors, and psychological distress. The most effective prevention strategies involve combined interventions, including organizational support, transformational leadership, wellness programs, and individual self-care practices.
